The history of Supercharged C60 traces back to the discovery and study of beneficial health effects associated with pure carbon fullerene-like structures. It began with the identification of a naturally occurring carbon-based mineraloid called "shungite" near the village of Shunga, Russia. Shungite had been used as a folk medical treatment since the early 18th century, and its water purifying properties were recognized by Peter the Great, who established Russia's first spa in Karelia to utilize shungite. While a carbon C60 buckyball represents a nanocarbon molecule consisting of 60 carbon atoms arranged in a near-spherical shape with a diameter of around one nanometer (nm), Supercharged C60 molecules exhibit a distinct structure. They are organized in concentric or nested fullerene shells, ranging from 10 to 20 in count, resembling layers like onions surrounding a buckyball core.

The unique structure of the Supercharged C60 molecule results in a significantly higher capacity for suppressing free radical activity with each exposed shell. It possesses a greater number of sites on the outer shells to interact with and neutralize damaging free radicals compared to regular C60 with a single shell.

Supercharged C60 encompasses fullerene-bonded carbon molecules, including both regular C60 and Supercharged C60. These curved molecules effectively absorb free radicals, similar to a sponge, due to their unique structure. As a result, Supercharged C60 acts as a powerful agent for absorbing harmful free radical electrons, facilitating their removal from the body and contributing to overall well-being.
